How to use this calculator
This calculator uses standard adult screening categories for ages 20 and older. It is not intended for children, teenagers or pregnancy.
BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat or show fat distribution. It cannot diagnose health or establish an individual’s ideal weight. Discuss health questions with a qualified clinician.
The formula
BMI = weight in kilograms ÷ (height in metres)².
A worked example
At 70 kg and 175 cm, BMI is 70 ÷ 1.75² = 22.86, within the standard adult healthy-weight screening range.
